HTML5
HTML5 is a language for structuring and presenting content for the World Wide Web, a core technology of the Internet. It is the latest revision of the HTML standard (originally created in 1990) and currently remains under development. Its core aims have been to improve the language with support for the latest multimedia while keeping it easily readable and consistently understood by computers and devices.
PHP
PHP is a general-purpose scripting language originally designed for web development to produce dynamic web pages. For this purpose, PHP code is embedded into the HTML source document and interpreted by a web server with a PHP processor module, which generates the web page document. PHP can be deployed on most web servers and as a standalone interpreter, on almost every operating system and platform free of charge. PHP is installed on more than 20 million websites and 1 million web servers.
Javascript / jQuery
jQuery is a cross-browser JavaScript library designed to simplify the client-side scripting of HTML. It's syntax is designed to make it easier to navigate a document, create animations, handle events, and develop Ajax applications. jQuery also provides capabilities for developers to create plugins on top of the JavaScript library. Using these facilities, developers are able to create abstractions for low-level interaction and animation, advanced effects and high-level, theme-able widgets. Much of this website uses jQuery.
FBML
Facebook Markup Language (FBML) is considered to be Facebook's own version of HTML. While many of the tags of HTML can be used in FBML, there are also important tags that cannot be used use such as HTML, HEAD and BODY. Also, Javascript cannot be used with FBML.
Flash
Flash is a multimedia platform used to add animation, video, and interactivity to web pages. Flash is frequently used for advertisements and games. Flash manipulates vector and raster graphics to provide animation of text, drawings, and still images. It supports bidirectional streaming of audio and video, and it can capture user input via mouse, keyboard, microphone, and camera. Flash contains an object-oriented language called ActionScript.
CSS
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language used to describe the presentation semantics (the look and formatting) of a document written in a markup language. Its most common application is to style web pages written in HTML and XHTML, but the language can also be applied to any kind of XML document, including plain XML, SVG and XUL.
Photoshop
Despite Photoshop not being a programming launguage or development tool, it is very useful in web design. With Photoshop, a developer can create custom graphics and color schemes to incorporate into the website. It is also very useful in creating transparent PNG graphics so that the websites background image or color can be seen through the image. This creates a level of depth to the website.
