New marriage. New Job. New website.
I haven't posted on here in a long long time. Mainly, I suppose, because a lot of things have changed for me in the last year. Where to begin..... Kristin an I were married on Nov 12th, in Clayton NC. It was a beautiful and memorable event. We had so much fun and we both feel like things went off without a hitch. The music was great! We had a string quartet playing some beautiful classical music that I had picked out. A lot of people, including us, were sad when the musicians left because we were enjoying it so much. We've got hundreds and hundreds of pictures too. Needless to say, we are both very happy and have been enjoying our time together planning our future and dreaming of where we'll go and what we'll do.
Another big change came in December when I decided that my time at Ullico was drawing to a close. I felt the need to move on to greener pastures and looked for something that was a little more in line with what I had in mind for a career. Just doing a few searches and dropping a few resumes ended up getting me more attention that I thought possible. I received about 10 different interview request and actually went to a few of them. Some were just blocks away from where my office was, so there would have been virtually no change in my commute.
Eventually, I got a call from a prominent web development firm named NJI Media in Alexandria, VA. A job in this area would shave 30 mins off of my commute. The interview went well, but I honestly didn't think they were that interested. Surprisingly, I got an email saying they would like for me to become a permanent part of their staff and take a senior position with them. I was both shocked and excited. My first day was at the beginning of January and it snowed most of the day.
NJI Media handles web development for the Speaker of the House, Mitt Romney's presidential candidate website, many energy companies, the US Travel Association, and has done work for CSPAN. Needless to say, this company has accomplished some awesome websites and has become one of the more prominent web design firms in the Washington DC area. So far, the job has been great. My co-workers are fun and make it one of the most unique and rewarding places I have every worked for.
Since I've started at NJI Media, I've worked hard on trying to learn more about development and challenging myself on design and functionality. I've been studying the programming library called jQuery. You can use jQuery to animate, change, and move things on your website. By understanding how jQuery works with different web elements, I've been able to do some pretty neat animations and designs. So I decided to redesign my website for a more modern look. It's more simple and cleaner than my previous design. I've also made it much easier to edit and add to.
The last 6 months have been very exciting and I can only hope that this next year brings many surprises and happy times.
